This website is for tall bicycle riders.  See my Classified Ads for frames and bikes 60cm and larger.  Got bikes, frames or components to sell?  Place classads for free!  Also see a new section called Before&After.

Tall riders, and those with longer than average arms and legs, have far fewer options for finding bikes and parts that work well for their size than do shorter riders.

The bike manufacturers make frames sized from around 48cm to 63cm measured size.  This is the size from the center of the bottom bracket (center of crank) to the top of the seat tube (c-t) or to the center of the top tube (c-c).

The taller (6' or more) riders almost always need a bike sized 60cm or larger.  The length of the top tube is the other key dimension in sizing.  There are differing opinions as to how to determine the best frame size for any rider, but it is my belief that each rider needs to try a few bikes to see what works.  A rider's inseam length (from floor to pubic bone), flexibility, arm and torso length and riding style all come into play.  My approach has been to buy quality used bikes, make my own adjustments, and try several before settling for just the right ride.

As I develop this site I will include more info for a variety of tall riders — heavier riders (Clydesdales), tall women riders and riders with beyond-average limb lengths.  I will also list here products that work best for tall riders.

Contact me by email at rusty@tallrides.com for more detailed info or with questions.

Heard about the "Best Ride in America"?  I always encourage people to come to Oregon in September for Cycle Oregon, but the event is sold out! Read about last year's 2007 Cycle Oregon.

I am starting a new web page here on Bike Fitting.  This will develop over time so be patient as I pull together a lot of usefull info.

If you want to be on my email list just send me your email address.  I send out short emails when I have new listings.

Francisco Cuevas bike, vintage, early 1970s – 59-60cm
After building bike frames in Spain, Cuevas came to America in 1971 to start a new life.  He worked in a NYC bike shop as a mechanic while building custom steel racing bike frames after hours.  In 1984 he and his son, Andres, started their own frame shop in Astoria, NY.
This bike came to me in parts from a friend who was living in NYC in the early '80s although I suspect this is from the early-to-mid-'70s (blue frame).  The frame has no decals or markings but has "cuevas" embossed in the top of the seat stays.  Has Campy headset and Campy Record hubs with Campy rims.  I'm searching for parts and had the frame powder coated a rich yellow.  If anyone knows anything about Cuevas bikes please get in touch with me.
